The W800 P2 Liquid & Flex Pack

The amp that defined hard rock and heavy metal in the '80s. Played by Slash, Zakk Wylde, and Kerry King. Now inside your Kemper.

24 profiles. Profiling 2.0. Liquid Profiles. Flex Profiles.

The W800 pack was captured from a Marshall JCM800 2203, the 100-watt single-channel head that dominated stages and studios throughout the 1980s and never really left. Known for its tight midrange, compressed crunch, and the way it responds to pick attack and boost pedals, the 2203 is one of the most recorded amp circuits in rock and metal history. This pack captures it across three profiling technologies and two 4x12 cabinets, covering the full range of what the amp does, from its classic crunch sweet spot to cranked preamp and high-gain territory.

Why guitarists choose this pack

  • Three profiling technologies in one pack — Liquid Profiles for amp-like knob response, Flex Profiles for dynamic range, and Profiling 2.0 for capture accuracy
  • Two 4x12 cabinets captured — Mesa Boogie Traditional (412) and Marshall Signature Dave Mustaine (DM412), each with a distinct low-end character
  • Seven tonal variations — from Classic Crunch and Vintage Dark to Zakk Wylde and Heavy Metal, each captured at a specific operating point
  • DI profiles included — run through your own IRs
  • Instant digital download — load and play in minutes

One amp. Seven voices. Zero redundancy.

The JCM800 2203 is a single-channel amp, but it doesn't sound the same at every gain setting. The way this circuit responds to preamp volume, master volume, and boost pedals changes its character significantly. Each variation in this pack was captured at a specific operating point, not just with the gain knob turned up.

The two 4x12 cabinets add another dimension. The Mesa Boogie Traditional has a rounder, more compressed low end. The Dave Mustaine Marshall signature is tighter and more present in the upper midrange. Same amp, different cabinet response, and you have both.

What makes this different: Profiling 2.0 + Liquid + Flex

Most Kemper profiles are static — one moment in time, one mic position, one state. Profiling 2.0 improves how the amp's dynamic behavior is captured, getting closer to how the amp actually responds across gain levels and pick attack.

Liquid Profiles add a layer on top: they replicate the amp's internal controls inside the Kemper, so when you turn the gain or tweak the EQ on your unit, it behaves like you're turning the knobs on the real amp, not just processing a static capture.

Flex Profiles give you additional morph range and dynamic response within a single profile, useful for covering the amp's character across a full set without switching profiles.

The amp behind the sound

The JCM800 2203 was introduced in 1981 and became the dominant amp in hard rock and heavy metal for the entire decade. Its single-channel, master volume design produced the thick, crunchy, dynamically aggressive tone that defined the era. Slash used it through the early Guns N' Roses years. Zakk Wylde built his high-gain approach around it. Kerry King ran it hard with boost pedals. The amp's longevity comes from how it responds to the player, to pick attack, to pedals, to volume changes, rather than from complexity of features.

That interaction is what this pack is built to capture and preserve inside your Kemper.

Liquid Profile note

This pack includes Liquid Profiles built with Profiling 2.0 and configured to respond as close as possible to the original amp. Kemper's Liquid technology uses the Mars CM800 model for this circuit, which is the most accurate match available for the JCM800 2203.
